4th OEF/OIF Welcome Home Event
TDVA attended and participated at the 4th Annual OEF/OIF/OND Welcome Home Event which coincided with the 45th anniversary of “Armed Forces Day, which was officially celebrated on Saturday, May 20, 1950, marking the first combined demonstration by America’s defense team of its progress. Armed Forces Day recognizes the readiness and preparedness by all of our uniformed military service men and women unified as a single force capable of working together protecting our land, sea, and air defense. Several hundred Veterans, Active Duty Personnel, and their families attended the 4th Welcome Home Event held today, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas known as “Military City USA”. The event was held from 10 AM – 2 PM and everyone enjoyed food, live music, DJ music, refreshments, display booths, and networking with various veterans organizations and businesses dedicated to improving the lives of our Veterans and Active Duty Personnel. The Texas Disabled Veterans Association set up an exhibit table commemorating the military service of Vietnam War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Roy P. Benavidez and World War II Silver Star Metal Recipient Samuel Thomas with military memorabilia belonging to both military heroes. TDVA also provided brochures highlighting its 4 ongoing programs (visit www.tdva.net), business cards, and eco-friendly tote bags to all military patriots and their families who attended the event. TDVA salutes the Audie L Murphy VA Medical Center Volunteer Services for their successful organization of this wonderful family oriented event and all of the other VA Volunteers, ROTC student volunteers, and Morgan’s Wonderland Staff who kept the entire event on time and comfortable for everyone in attendance. TDVA looks forward to next year’s 5th Annual Welcome Home Event and Armed Forces Day Celebration!
